Abstract

The specific aim of this research paper is to demonstrate how much energy use will be reduced if the energy simulation of a building and its conservation is applied to the building. Energy simulation is a computer-based analytical process that helps building owners and designers to evaluate the energy performance of a building. The methodology applied includes: (1) choosing appropriate building simulation software to assess energy savings, (2) selecting a representative building and then creating the building model for simulation, (3) selecting proper energy-saving strategies and applying them to obtain hourly energy use for a day. In this research paper a quick energy simulation tool eQUEST is chosen for the study and apply this on an institutional building. All the data's like building envelope, weather file, HVAC and the drawing prepared in Autocad were the main input for building simulation software. After doing the modeling of building, energy conservation measures were applied like retrofitted of star rated air conditioners, insulation material for roof and above grade wall and applying the occupancy sensor. It is found that after applying these recommendations of energy conservation 13.02% of energy can be saved.
